How to monitor Amazon listing changes automatically: title, images, Buy Box, sellers
Why Amazon listings change without you, what to watch (title, bullets, images, A+, Buy Box, sellers, price) and how to get a daily record and email alerts.

An Amazon listing is not a page you own. It is a shared catalogue record that Amazon, every seller with an offer on it and Amazon’s own systems can change — and none of them will tell you when they do. The title you wrote in March can read differently by June, the main image can be swapped by a contribution you never saw, and a new seller can appear under your Buy Box overnight. This guide covers what changes and why, what Amazon’s own tools show you, and how to set up automatic daily monitoring so you hear about a change the day it happens rather than the week your conversion rate drops.
Why listings change without you
Amazon does not publish how or when it edits a product page, so what follows is what sellers commonly see rather than a documented process.
- Contributions from other sellers. Every seller with an offer on an ASIN can submit product data for it. When Amazon judges another contribution more authoritative than yours, their title, bullets or images can replace yours on the shared page.
- Catalogue merges and splits. Amazon merges listings it considers duplicates and splits or re-parents variations. The surviving page can carry the other listing’s content, images and reviews.
- Amazon-side edits. Automated title clean-ups, category re-assignment, removed claims and rewritten attributes appear without any seller doing anything.
- New offers. Anyone can add an offer to an existing ASIN. A reseller or hijacker shows up as a new seller and, with a lower price, can take the Buy Box from you.
- Image swaps. A changed main image is among the most damaging edits and the easiest to miss, because you rarely open your own listing the way a shopper does.
What to watch
The fields worth a daily look fall into a few groups. Every one of them is read from the live product page — the page a shopper sees — and stored on each check by AMZ Selling Tools.
- Title — the single most keyword-sensitive field on the page.
- Bullet points — the first five individually, plus the full list.
- Images and video — up to ten image URLs and whether a video is present.
- A+ content — whether the listing has a Brand Story or standard A+ block, whether it is Premium, the full A+ text and its images, and the product description.
- Buy Box winner — the seller behind the Add to Cart button.
- Seller list — the top three offers with each seller’s fulfilment type (Amazon, FBA or FBM), item condition and price, the count of other offers, and who dispatches the Buy Box offer.
- Price — the headline price, list price and sale price, plus the savings badge.
- Availability — “In Stock”, “Only 3 left in stock” or “Currently unavailable”, exactly as the page words it.
- Delivery promise — the standard and fastest delivery dates, the “order within” countdown, the delivery fee and the Prime badge.
- Coupons and deals — whether a coupon or deal is showing and what it says.
What Amazon’s own tools show you, and what they do not
Seller Central has its own listing-change tools for the catalogue you sell on, and they are the right place to see and contest an edit to your own listing’s content. They leave three gaps for anyone competing on a marketplace:
- Your own listings only. A competitor’s title change, image swap or new coupon never appears there.
- The catalogue record, not the page. Who holds the Buy Box, which other sellers are on the listing, what the delivery promise reads and whether the item shows as in stock are properties of the live page, not of the data you submitted.
- No location view. Amazon builds the page for the shopper’s location, so delivery dates, stock messages and sometimes the winning offer differ between Dallas and New York. A catalogue tool has no way to show that.
Set up automatic monitoring with AMZ Selling Tools
- Add the ASINs. Paste a list or upload a file, and include your competitors’ ASINs alongside your own. For each one, pick the marketplace and shopper location: 12 marketplaces and 22 locations, including six US cities and six Canadian cities.
- Let the daily check run. Every listing is read once a day, overnight in the marketplace’s local time, at a time you can set per marketplace. When you need the very latest, select the listings and run an on-demand check.
- Read the changes view. The Changes button filters the table to listings where something changed compared with the previous check. Diff View highlights the exact words removed and added in a title or bullet, clicking a cell opens every value ever recorded for it with a timestamp, All Data lists every past check as its own row, and the date picker shows the table as it stood on any day. Rolling fields — the delivery dates, the countdown and the listing badge — are recorded on every check but not flagged as changes, because they move every day.
- Set alerts. An alert is one field and one condition. Text fields such as Title, Buy Box, Seller 1, Availability, Image 1, Description and A+ Type take “changed”, “becomes”, “contains” and “stops containing”; Has Coupon, Has Deal and the Prime badge take “turned on” and “turned off”; prices and the offers count take “drops below”, “rises above”, “increased” and “decreased”. Presets cover the common cases — Buy Box winner changed, Availability changed, Price drops below. Choose an email after every check, or one daily summary after your last scheduled check of the day. Two details worth knowing: an alert fires on a change from one value to another, so a field appearing on a listing for the first time is recorded rather than emailed; and bullet points and the full A+ text are compared in the changes view rather than by email.
- Take the record with you. Download to CSV, connect Google Sheets so the history refreshes itself, or pull any column through the read-only API included on every plan.
An example playbook
- Image 1 changed on your listing. Open the listing as a shopper. If the new image is not yours, it is most likely another seller’s contribution or an Amazon-side swap; the before-and-after record from the tracker is what you attach when you contest it.
- A new seller appears. Seller 2 fills in, or the offers count rises. Compare the newcomer’s price, fulfilment type and condition with yours, watch the Buy Box column over the following days to see whether they are taking a share of it, and check whether they are an authorised reseller.
- The title changed. Diff View shows the words that moved. Confirm the keywords you rank for are still in it; if Amazon normalised the title, adjust your own copy to fit. Then watch the demand signals over the following weeks — the sales rank, covered in our BSR guide, and the “bought in past month” badge.
- Availability becomes “Currently unavailable”, or delivery slips. On your own listing that is a stock or logistics problem, and a reason to pause ads until it clears; on a competitor’s listing it is an opening.
- Has Coupon turned on for a competitor. They are running a promotion. Decide whether to match it before your conversion rate tells you.
Our listing monitoring page lists every field in detail. Tracking costs a flat $0.10 per ASIN per month — 30 daily checks per ASIN — and every new account starts with a free 30-day trial of up to 10 products, 10 checks a day, with no card required. See everything else the tracker records from the same page.
Common questions
How quickly are listing changes detected?
Every tracked listing is checked once a day, overnight in the marketplace’s local time, so a change is recorded within a day of appearing. When you need the very latest, select the listings and run an on-demand check; it lands in the same history and can trigger the same alerts.
Can I monitor competitors’ listings?
Yes. Add any ASIN, yours or a competitor’s, and it is read from the public product page like any other listing — title, bullets, images, A+ content, price, Buy Box, sellers, availability and delivery — checked daily in the marketplace and shopper location you choose.
Does it detect hijackers?
It records the Buy Box winner and the top three sellers — with fulfilment type, condition and price — plus the count of other offers on every check, and can email you when the Buy Box winner changes, a seller name changes or the number of offers rises. There is no dedicated hijacker alert: a seller slot filling for the first time is recorded in the history rather than emailed, so pair a Buy Box alert with a look at the seller columns in the changes view.
Does it work on all Amazon marketplaces?
It works on 12: amazon.com from six US cities, amazon.ca from six Canadian cities, and amazon.co.uk, .de, .fr, .it, .es, .pl, .se, .nl, .com.be and .com.au. The same fields are read on each, in the local language and currency, and each marketplace runs its own daily check in its local time.
